The fundamentals of Sleepfun are quite straightforward. Sleepfun simply uses bedtime stories which actively involve the children themselves in the story and this promotes:
- A safe environment in which to go to sleep.
- The development of REM sleep, which in turn produces the brain chemicals, which induce deep sleep.
- The development of imaginative, creative and non verbal skills for easing anxieties which may be difficult to understand.
- The enhancement of resources, like confidence and self esteem.
- Excellent opportunities for bonding between parent and child.
These stories simply involve creating a series of places in the imagination for doing everyday activities in special ways.
All you have to do is read the stories to your child(ren) at night, when they are going to sleep. They can choose which stories they want to read, and in any order. After they are comfortable with the stories, you and your child(ren) can use the CDs very effectively. if you want to, you can simply start by using the CD alone. To be perfectly honest, in my opinion, if you have the time, it is much better for both you and your child(ren), to read the stories from the book, especially when you first start to use Sleepfun. Personally I get a stronger feeling of bonding with my children when I am actively involved with the storytelling. However, we as parents or carers can get very tired at times, and in those circumstances, the CDs are an extremely useful and effective back up, which children enjoy.
